Demonstrating its commitment to advancing as a smart city, Kaohsiung City is expanding its smart parking system. Print
      Update Time:2024-09-13 15:39

The on-street smart parking system employs license plate recognition technology for automated recording of parking duration and fees, eliminating the need for physical payment slips. Easily identifiable by their green logo and the label "Smart," (智慧) Kaohsiung's smart parking spaces aim to enhance convenience and efficiency for motorists.

Currently, there are 1,720 on-street smart parking spaces installed in the Kaohsiung Software Park, Chengcing Lake, and around the Weiwuying area. Starting from July 1 2024, an additional 700 smart parking spaces will be offered in the Heti Community, the vicinity of Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital, and along Minzu 1st Road (from Huaxia Road to Dashun 1st Road). This expansion will utilize a diverse range of smart parking equipment, including low-profile, parking posts, and high-profile types, to adapt to various road conditions and residential-commercial environments.

Kaohsiung currently operates 1,720 smart parking devices and 2,000 geomagnetic sensor devices, all capable of transmitting real-time parking availability information. This data is accessible on the Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau's public parking service website (https://kpp.tbkc.gov.tw/) and is integrated with various apps, aiding motorists in locating parking spaces efficiently. The introduction of 700 new smart parking spaces will expand real-time parking information coverage by approximately 20%, significantly reducing search times for drivers, easing traffic congestion, and supporting energy conservation and carbon reduction efforts.

To facilitate the paperless billing model for smart parking, users can scan QR codes on fee notice boards or visit the Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau’s public parking service website to check parking fees. Payments can be made via 11 mobile payment apps partnered with the Transportation Bureau, including LINE Pay (iPASS MONEY), O’Pay, JKOPay, Pi Wallet, CarMochi, Far EasTone Heart Life, Parking IoT App, GAMA Pay, Easy Wallet, PXPay, and uTagGo. Alternatively, payments are accepted at smart kiosks located in major convenience store chains. Additionally, users who have linked their accounts with Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection, telecom companies, or banking institutions for automatic deductions will have their parking fees debited automatically.

To encourage the use of mobile payment apps for on-on-street parking fees, the Transportation Bureau is offering discount incentives and a chance to win various exciting prizes, including a round-trip ticket to Osaka, Japan. Users who pay their parking fees through the aforementioned mobile payment apps within the payment period (14 days counting from the day following the parking day) will enjoy a 5% discount. From July 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, new users will receive a 40% discount on their first payment. Additionally, from July 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, every payment made via the mobile payment apps, regardless of whether the user is new or existing, will grant one entry into the prize draw. Furthermore, Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection Co., Ltd. is supporting Kaohsiung’s smart parking initiative by offering additional discounts and prize opportunities. From July 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, new uTagGo App members who enroll in the "eTag Parking Deduction" service can participate in monthly draws for an iPhone 15 or Carbon Reduction Coins (value of NT$888). Members will also receive a NT$5 discount on each on-street parking fee in Kaohsiung, accumulating up to NT$50 in Carbon Reduction Coins per vehicle.
