To improve road safety and reduce traffic accidents, the Transportation Bureau has set up “road users’ dangerous behavior monitoring and voice warning systems” at the intersections of City Highway 188/Fenglin 2nd Rd. and City Highway 188/Huazhong Rd. Through vehicle trajectory detection and AI analysis, violations such as failing to follow traffic signals and markings can thus be identified.
According to the Transportation Bureau, the warning system will be used at the intersections of City Highway 188/Fenglin 2nd Rd. and City Highway 188/Huazhong Rd. as a technology for law enforcement from May 1 this year (Buffer period: April 16-April 30).
Kaohsiung City Highway 188 is located below Provincial Highway 88, which is an east-west thoroughfare between Kaohsiung and Pingtung. As the traffic around the Dafa Industrial Park in Daliao District is heavy and the number of large vehicles is large, the Transportation Bureau has launched a pilot project called “Road Users’ Dangerous Behavior Monitoring and Voice Warning Systems” to detect illegal behavior and remind road users to obey traffic regulations by giving warnings.
According to statistics, the average number of traffic violation cases at each intersection showed a downward trend after the warning system has been used since March this year (only giving warnings, not tickets). The overall number of violation cases at the intersection of City Highway 188/Fenglin 2nd Rd. has decreased by about 43% compared with that before the system was used.
The Transportation Bureau said that to continuously improve road safety and prevent violations, it is expected that westbound traffic from the intersection of City Highway 188/Fenglin 2nd Rd. and eastbound traffic from the intersection of City Highway 188/Huazhong Rd. in Daliao District will be included in the scope of law enforcement, such as failing to follow traffic signals and markings. The Kaohsiung City Police Department will also actively crack down on illegal behavior to jointly curb dangerous behavior at intersections and ensure road safety for its citizens!
